John Burrows grew up in the San Diego area and completed his education at the Los Angeles Art Center College of Design. Having contracted polio at the age of 8, his father insisted he keep his motor skills sharp with carving or drawing projects during his recovery. Lucky the illness was a mild case and he worked through its side effects. This early exposure to the arts left a lasting impression.
Although the majority of his career he focused on commercial interior design, fine art was always his passion. After 35 years in the industry, he closed his design firm and decided to pursue painting full time. He initially began working with acrylics but after experimenting with oils, he found his preferred medium. Since oil paints stay wet when painting, he is able to create a thick impasto using drywall knives and large brushes. His work is in private and corporate collections nationwide. Burrows resides in southern California with his wife where they share a studio space.
