In this abstracted oil monotype, layers of muted tones contrast nicely with brighter blues in the foreground while the artist’s gestural brushwork is visible in each layer. Rich’s work is heavily influenced by the abstract qualities of the natural world, drawing inspiration from her local environment and from her travels abroad. Altered Fields comes framed in a light maple frame 31 x 25 inches, ready to hang.
A monotype is a printmaking process where the artist applies paint directly onto the printmaking plate (the matrix) before running it through a press. The final product is an original work of art that cannot be reproduced the way an etching or an engraving could.
