Description
This dramatic composition is an oil encaustic on canvas. Blue and green are applied to the canvas with small, expressive brushstrokes. A clear horizon lies within the center of the canvas. As color radiates outward, the interaction of these two colors is examined. Emerald Night comes gallery wrapped, ready to hang.
The encaustic medium is ancient in its origins and consists of a pigment suspended in wax. When oil paint is mixed with beeswax, dramatic effects are achieved. Light filters through the layers of paint giving Rogers’ work an inner glow. The oil encaustic process holds the impression of her brushstrokes, allowing the artist to create a composition with a tactile surface quality.
