This black and white lithograph is a modern version of a classic still life. In keeping with Dutch tradition, the artist’s focal point is a lobster. Rather than creating a typical “pronkstilleven”, or ostentatious still life commonly painted during the Dutch Golden Age, Renssen has approached this still life with humor. The lobster engages with the viewer through a playful gaze.
In affiliation with the Renssen Gallery in Amsterdam, Erik Renssen is an admirer of and inspired by Pablo Picasso.
