This scratchboard illustration is the artist’s version of Vincent Van Gogh’s Potato Eaters. Dramatic lighting effects and bodily features reflect the harsh country life of the field workers. The scratchboard process involves the artist incising lines, similar to engraving, onto a board that has been layered with white clay and India ink. As each line is drawn, the top layer of black ink is removed, revealing the white clay underneath. Serving the Potato Eaters comes matted with a thick white matte and contemporary black frame, ready to hang.
