This abstracted oil monotype depicts the reflection of the sun setting on a distant horizon. Bursts of orange and yellow artfully communicate the heat of a setting sun while fluid brushwork is used to portray the reflective qualities of water’s surface. Rich’s work is heavily influenced by the abstract qualities of the natural world, drawing inspiration from her local environment and from her travels abroad. Toward Evening comes framed in a light maple frame sized 31 x 25 inches, ready to hang.
A monotype is a printmaking process where the artist applies paint directly onto the printmaking plate (the matrix) before running it through a press. The final product is an original work of art that cannot be reproduced the way an etching or an engraving could.
